John Carthy, MD
Dr. Carthy worked at Clifton-Fine Hospital from 1971 to 1986, and has recently returned to the delight of many local residents who remember him well. He received his bachelor's degree from Fordham College, New York, NY, his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, and completed his residency at St. Vincent's Hospital,New York, NY. Dr. Carthy has a New York State License in Medicine and Surgery. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as Major,USAMC, Tokyo, Japan from 1968-1970. Dr. Carthy and his wife, Hiroko,reside in Star Lake, and they have 5 sons and a daughter.
Heather Schmidt, MD
Dr. Schmidt has recently re-located to the Star Lake area from Michigan, where she was raised and completed her education. She received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, MI, and completed her Family Medicine residency training at St. Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS) Brighton Family Practice, Brighton, MI. Dr. Schmidt is in board process with the American Board of Family Medicine. While she specializes in family medicine, Dr. Schmidt is also certified in Complementary Medicine and Wellness through Oakland University, Rochester, MI. This includes training in stress management, nutrition, and herbology. Dr. Schmidt has a long history of community service, including work with autistic children, at risk teens and the deaf community. She is trained in Medical American Sign Language (ASL).
R. Brian Shambo, MD
Dr. Shambo grew up in Copenhagen and attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. He received his medical degree from Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY, and completed his Family Medicine residency training at UHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY. Dr. Shambo is Board-certified with the American Board of Family Medicine. He has provided care for families in Copenhagen, Lowville and the surrounding areas for the past 25 years. This has included fifteen years as an Emergency Medicine physician and Medical Director of the Lewis County General Hospital Emergency Department as well as ten years as a family physician. Most recently, Dr. Shambo was part of Lowville Medical Associates in Lowville.
Deborah Body FNP
Deborah Body has been a board certified family nurse practitioner for 14 years. She has worked in the medical field in one role or another for over 35 years. Most recently she worked at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY in the interventional radiology department.
